Tribute to Mama J
Mama J was a beautiful woman, both inside and out. Although my time with her was not very long, it was incredibly memorable and meaningful. I miss her. I miss visiting her room and having chats with her.
Mama J always asked after me through Sharon and OJ , and I’m so glad I made the effort to see her whenever I could. I remember when she came for Sharon and OJ's engagement. That was one of the occasions when we really began to connect. She was so open with me and shared stories of her time in Ibadan. We instantly took to each other.
She was someone who deeply appreciated and was grateful for even the smallest gestures.
I recall one conversation we had about her skin and the creams she used. She told me how much she loved shea butter. As it happened, I had some with me that day and gave it to her. She was so thrilled, as though I had given her a million pounds! She took a little and wanted to return the rest, but I insisted she keep it. She was so moved. After that, I decided I would get her some of her own, and when did, she was absolutely overjoyed. Every time I saw her afterwards, she would tell me how she used it and how it made her skin glow.
Mama J was always so appreciative whenever I popped in to see her. She’d tell me she had asked after me. I loved hearing the stories she shared, how much she loved her children, and how she always wanted to know where they were. She adored her grandchildren and loved me too – and I loved her right back.
I remember when she was nearing the end. I was told, and I hoped and prayed I would get to see her again. Thankfully, I had the chance to speak with her on a video call. She looked so beautiful and radiant; no one would have guessed she was leaving us. She asked to see my granddaughter, her great-granddaughter, and when she saw her on the video, she was so excited, smiling and laughing. That was the last time I saw her.
By the time I was ready to visit her in person, I received the news that she had taken ill, worsened, and sadly passed on. I’m so grateful our paths crossed, and I believe she is resting in peace.
Rest well, Mama J.
Love you always.
