Regal’s Final Bow
In twilight’s soft embrace, the regal stands,
A crown of stars upon her brow,
Her reign, like rivers, flowed through distant lands,
But now, she takes her final bow.
A whisper in the wind, her name endures,
Echoes of grace in each breath of night,
The golden cloak of legacy ensures,
Her spirit’s dance in the dying light.
As dusk descends, her story fades to dusk,
The regal sighs, her journey done,
Yet in each heart that she has touched,
Her light lives on, as bright as the sun.
So let the regal rest in her divine,
In peace, she takes her place in time.

Today, we honor and remember Lucretia Admire Jarrett, fondly known to all as Grandma J, a woman who truly embodied the essence of being a Jarrett. She was the strongest woman I ever knew, a pillar of our family whose regal presence and demeanor spoke volumes before she even uttered a word. Grandma J was more than just a matriarch; she was a beacon of truth, never shying away from saying what needed to be said, yet always delivering her words with love and wisdom.
Her passion for children was one of her most remarkable qualities. In her later years, she was always present at her daughter’s primary and secondary schools, offering support and showing deep care for their growth and education. Her love for children was not just confined to her family; it extended to every young life she touched, nurturing and guiding them with her steady hand and kind heart.
Staying at Grandma J’s house was a cherished experience, a place where fond memories were created with cousins, uncles, and aunties. The idea of going to her house was always a welcome one, filled with the anticipation of warmth and love that awaited. Her living room, adorned with countless photographs, was like a gallery of our family’s history—a window into the past, each picture a testament to the strong, rich, and purpose-filled life she lived. The ornaments that filled every corner of her home were glimpses into the nobility of her soul, reflections of a life lived with grace and dignity.
To step into her home was to step into a world of beauty and culture. You couldn’t help but “admire,” as her name suggests, her lovely and cultured taste in the arts and the more vibrant parts of our existence. Her home was more than a place; it was a sanctuary, filled with laughter, love, and lessons that have left a lasting imprint on all who were fortunate enough to spend time there.
To know her was to experience a profound love that transcended generations. She was there for all of us—her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Each of us was brought up in the way of the Lord, a testament to her faith and dedication to instilling values that have guided us through life’s journey. Her presence was a constant, whether at celebrations of joy or moments of sorrow. She was always there, a guiding light, offering support, comfort, and a steady hand to hold.
Grandma J was loved by many, not just for her strength and resilience but for the way she loved so deeply and fully. She was a model of what it means to live a life of purpose and integrity, and her legacy will continue to inspire us for generations to come. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit remains ever-present, woven into the fabric of our lives and hearts.
We celebrate her life today and always, grateful for the lessons she taught us, the love she gave us, and the example she set. May we continue to honor her by living with the same strength, grace, and love that she exemplified every day of her life.
Rest in peace, Grandma J. You will forever be our guiding light.
